To Vote, Perchance to Live

In the US, it is approaching primary season (and for those of us with early voting, may already be here). There is a startling lack of interaction in these proceedings by the general public, which I find both baffling and frustrating.

If you have the ability, voting in the primary may be the most important thing you do all year.

Even if you don’t like any of the candidates (which is likely), voting demonstrates that you are involved in the process of government and not willing to allow those currently invested of power to do as they wish. Wanting to get rid of the government entirely is an understandable impulse, but not voting is actually counterproductive to that goal. You can be an anarchist and still vote.

Additionally, this is the perfect opportunity to influence specific parties. I recommend voting against incumbents unless you genuinely believe they’re doing a phenomenal job. Even if they’re not upset on the final ballot, it sends a message.
